No particular car in this pic
On these following vehicles, during moderate or heavy acceleration:
-1971 Buick Riviera 455/3spd auto
-2007 GMC Yukon 6.2/6spd auto
-2013 Challenger 5.7/5spd auto
There is a faint high-pitched whistling noise that sounds awesome, adds a supercharger-esque tenor to the V8 bass.
Any idea what it is? It only exists in 1st and/or 2nd gear, so probably some transmission noise.

Off topic, but those gauges are from a previous generation WRX.

The 5.4 in the E-350 is NOT a pushrod V8.

Apologies, I just found out it’s a SOHC. I always assumed it’s an OHV because it makes the fast click-click-click noise when accelerating

The 2000-2006 generation of the GM 5.3 V8 could produce that whistle at a pretty loud volume. Can’t say what makes it happen but I’ve always loved it.

My brother, who specializes in LSX performance, said its intake/throttle body related.

I would assume you are hearing the gears whine a little in first gear. My ‘73 Buick, ‘86 suburban and ‘05 Yukon all had a first gear whine.

Yeah, my bet would just be transmission noises.

My 6.1 does the same thing. I always assumed it was the ported intake manny, throttle body combo. None of my other push rod V8s have done it.

Whistling always makes me think intake noise of some sort or a vacuum leak. After all, the bigger the engine, the more air it has to suck in.

My truck does that over 3500rpm in 1st-3rd. I have a 4.0 OHV V6. Its just the engine taking in air very rapidly, normal pushrod stuff

I can only speculate but having a bigger engine means more power. First gear needs stronger gears and straighter cut for strength which make more noise.

It’s likely induction noise. Sucking in lots of air.
